Moon IllusionBlurb:

Nathan Roberts was just your average polyamorous librarian living in Vancouver until his best friend, Deanna started dating a werewolf. While hosting the small pack in his apartment while they hid from the underground network of Huntsmen, Nathan enjoyed a casual fling with Cole, the pack leader’s brother. But now, he may just be falling for him.

When his neighbor is murdered, Nathan is convinced the death is linked to the supernatural, but Cole and their friends deny any paranormal connection. This leads to a fracture of trust in their relationship, and Cole’s pack is left to deal with an unknown killer on the loose. As Nathan pursues answers on his own, he must come to terms with the truth, and his feelings for Cole.

Outside, the air was thick and hot. Nathan was glad he’d passed over a suit jacket for a fitted vest, though, as a slow line of sweat made its way down his back, he wondered if the vest was a better choice than the more loosely fitted coat. Then again, the light gray vest and matching pants combined with the soft lilac of his dress shirt, and the darker purple of his tie brought some color to his pale skin and highlighted the blue of his eyes. And, there was actual product in his hair—Ryn’s doing, of course.

“I heard you brought a date with you tonight,” Dorothy said, as they reached the glass rail.

Nathan made a noncommittal noise.

“A fine gentlemen, or so I’ve been told,” Dorothy continued. “I can’t say I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him myself.”

Nathan huffed out a breath. “It’s not like I’ve been hiding him.”

“No?”

“No.” He squared his shoulders. Really, the only problem with Dorothy and Cole meeting was that they’d like each other too much. And between the two of them, they’d know too much about him. “I’ll introduce you.”

“I know you date,” Dorothy said as they went down the stairs, referring to Nathan’s intense dislike for monogamy. “And maybe I don’t understand that, but I don’t judge it. However, in all the time I’ve known you, you’ve never avoided introducing me to one of them.”

“I’m not avoiding.” They eased through the crowded first floor toward the nearest set of flung-open patio doors. Nathan had left Cole by the pool and suspected his boyfriend wouldn’t have gone far. “Does it look like I’m avoiding?” He only half paid attention to Dorothy’s answer; he was seeking one guest among those gathered around the pool.

There. Standing by the large poolside gazebo that hosted the restaurant-grade barbeque, Nathan caught the steady lines of Cole’s profile three quarters turned away: the strong, bearded jaw and the broad shoulders.

Across the pool, as though he felt Nathan’s approach, Cole stilled, turned. The noise of the party, of the laughing, half-drunk guests, faded into the background. Cole’s gaze spanned the crowd and the water and found Nathan’s eyes.

This far away Nathan couldn’t see the details, but he knew Cole’s honey-gold eyes softened. He knew the corners of his mouth ticked up—just a little on the right. He could see the way Cole’s stance opened. Unfurled, offered a dumbstruck part of himself, foolishly in love.

He realized he was staring across the pool at Cole with a moronic grin plastered on his face and hearts in his eyes. Ears hot, Nathan cleared his throat and escorted Dorothy around the pool.

As though sensing the significance of the woman on Nathan’s arm and perhaps literally sensing that significance—as a werewolf, Cole’s senses were far beyond what Nathan could comprehend—Cole broke away from the trio he was conversing with and moved easily through the crowd to meet them. The wine red of his tie was the only splash of color against his black suit jacket and his crisp white shirt.

“Mrs. Ho.” Cole took Dorothy’s proffered hand. “Nathan speaks very highly of you.”

“He’s told me next to nothing about you,” Dorothy replied.

Cole caught Nathan’s gaze over Dorothy’s head, and Nathan rolled his eyes. He hadn’t said nothing.

“Then I look forward to telling you myself,” said Cole.
